Once completed, Kai Tak Sports Park will be the most important sports infrastructure development in Hong Kong, and will help achieve three broad objectives – to promote sports in the community, to support elite sports and to make Hong Kong a hub for major international sports events.

A key feature of Kai Tak Sports Park, is the flexibility designed into all of the venues, allowing for a wide range of different activities and events, every week of the year.

The Main Stadium’s retractable roof and bowl cooling allows the hosting of international sports and cultural events and training to be held under all weather. The flexibility of staging allowing the operators to offer a range of configurations, sound and amenities perfect for community events right up to international sport or entertainers.

The plaza surrounding the stadium provides a multifunctional space for festivals and markets, with access to function rooms and facilities.

With the Dining Cove right next door, as well as easy connectivity to public transport, the Main Stadium inside Kai Tak Sports Park offers patrons everything they need to enjoy activities and events any day of the week.

The Indoor Sports Centre is the only 10,000 seat arena in Hong Kong that is flexible with 80% of the seats are retractable/removable and can transform to host multiple sports.

Yes. A retractable roof will bring a number of advantages, including:

• An option of opening or closing the roof can fulfil different purposes such as sports competitions, exhibitions, concerts, etc. as an all-weather venue.
• The roof, once closed, can help to minimise any nuisance to nearby residents due to the noise generated by the events held in the Main Stadium.

The Main Stadium will be available for major sports events as well as cultural and entertainment events. With an acoustic, retractable roof and a flexible turf system, the Main Stadium can provide different seating configurations by means of stage positioning, draping and other settings to cater for the needs of different activities.

It will be a flexible pitch system under which quality natural turf would be moved into the Main Stadium whenever required. Our flexible pitch system will allow the Main Stadium to be used for different kinds of events without the limitation from closure for turf maintenance.

Our solution maximizes the public space available in the Park, as we don’t rely on growing roped-off sections of turf and limiting recreation space outside the Stadium.

To tie in with the overall planning of Kai Tak Sports Park, the cycling track is planned to be placed on the eastern side of the Sports Park connecting the Kai Tak cycling track network. It is also distinctively separated from the pedestrian walkway so as to ensure the safety and convenience of pedestrians and cyclists. We will closely liaise with the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) to determine the number of bicycle berths that will complement the overall planning of the cycling network within the Sports Park.

There are more than 8 hectares of Public Open Space including landscaped platform across Shing Kai Road, a landscaped garden, waterfront promenade, passive amenities and park features, outdoor ball courts, children’s playgrounds, fitness stations, a jogging trail and a cycling track connecting the cycling network in Kai Tak development area.

The Sports Park will also provide commercial facilities, including retail space, a 40-lane bowling centre, a health and wellness centre and a dining cove, as well as car parking spaces.

The Sports Park accords priority to sports usage. During the time when there are no sports activities or competitions, the Main Stadium can be used for non-sports events, including entertainment shows like concerts, commercial activities like exhibitions and community events like religious gatherings.

The Indoor Sports Centre is suitable for holding major competitions and everyday community usages such as badminton, basketball or other indoor sports whenever there are no events.

The Public Sports Ground is able to accommodate the needs of school sports activities, training for athletes, land local football or rugby competitions. It will also be open for public for jogging.

Kowloon Bay has played an important role in the development of Hong Kong – a point through which its people have connected with the world. To continue this legacy, the design for Kai Tak Sports Park references and reflects many aspects of the site’s heritage.

All of the buildings represent a unique identity and character while working together to create a world-class leisure and entertainment destination. The Main Stadium for example strikes a classic and elegant silhouette, celebrating Hong Kong as the ‘pearl of the orient’. Designed to accommodate 50,000 spectators and with a retractable roof, the Main Stadium will host a myriad of sports events in any weather and can also be used for other activities such as concerts, exhibitions and carnivals. The grand south stand honours the great Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tradition, with the design of a vast activity platform set against a panoramic glass wall that provides exceptional views of the scenic harbourfront across to Lion Rock.

Kai Tak Sports Park will set the benchmark for entertainment and recreation precincts worldwide. The integration of world class sports facilities, retail, wellness and community leisure spaces will create an urban oasis and iconic destination for visitors and the local community.

A number of environmentally conscious design decisions have been developed into the design, including the integration of photovoltaic panels on all major facilities, extensive green roofscapes and an expansive network of electric vehicle charging stations across the precinct.

The design features multiple barrier-free facilities.

• Kai Tak Sports Avenue provides a continuous accessible path through the site connecting all the facilities with Station Square and the Dining Cove.
• Accessible elevators in all facilities throughout the park.
• Accessible parking spaces are distributed across the park.
• Accessible changing rooms and toilets are located for the general public and athletes in all facilities.
• Tactile indicators have been employed to guide all paths through the site.
• Wayfinding and signage includes braille.

With 2 MTR stations and a public transport interchange located a stone’s throw from the venue, Kai Tak Sports Park will boast unparalleled accessibility and effectively integrate with the growing Kowloon Bay community.

The precinct links to the surround transport infrastructure, offering clear access to numerous forms of public transport.

It’s anticipated that more than 80% of Kai Tak Sports Park patrons will arrive via public transport. The growing connectivity of the pedestrian walkway and overhead bridges will also aid in reducing road traffic. Once the new Shatin to Central link is operational, it will only be six stops to Central on the MTR with a journey time of approximately 15-20 minutes.

The construction has been started in the first quarter of 2019 and it is expected to be completed by phases at the end of 2024.

Kai Tak Sports Park Limited (KTSPL) will be in charge of Kai Tak Sports Park. KTSPL has contracted a global venue management company, ASM Global, as the operator to operate the precinct on a day-to-day basis.
